Biomedical art is a form of biological illustration that helps record and disseminate medical, anatomical, and related knowledge. It translates complex technical medical information into visual artwork to support research, patient care and education, public relations, and marketing objectives.

Forensic art is a presentation of visual information that combines art and science to aid in the outcome of law enforcement matters and official legal proceedings. It is a highly specialized field of work that utilizes forensic anthropology, human anatomy, psychology, graphic design, and medical illustration for identification, apprehension, or conviction purposes. Specialized subcategories used for investigation and identification include: composite drawing (witness-based sketches), facial approximation/reconstruction (2D/3D modeling of remains), image modification (age progression/enhancement), and demonstrative evidence for courtroom use. These techniques assist law enforcement by visualising suspects and victims.
